EUREKA

EUREKA News, the newsletter of EUREKA, the European network for market-oriented R&D, was viewed by its organisation as visually and editorially dull and far too introspective. Given its wide circulation (over 55,000 copies worldwide), the client asked Gellis to re-launch it as a news and features magazine which would appeal to EUREKA’s stakeholders, potential partners/investors and the media.

Euromed Heritage

Gellis organised a training course on ‘Communication for Development’ in the RMSU framework of its function of technical assistance to the Euromed Heritage programme. The training, attended by 25 participants from nine countries, took place at the Université Hassan II – Mohammedia.

European Commission – DG Economic and Financial Affairs

DG ECFIN communicates on the euro largely via its website, and by making brochures and expert speakers available in countries which aim to adopt it as their currency. However, DG ECFIN was concerned the euro and the role the European Commission plays in this area was not recognised in the schools’ curricula across Europe. Therefore, DG ECFIN hired Gellis Communications to advise them on the development and distribution of new products targeted at schools and the educational sector in general, to support existing schools curricula across the EU 27 Member States.

European Economic & Social Committee (EESC)

Gellis designed a two year strategy for the promotion of the EU-India Civil Society Internet Forum. The strategy encompassed: a launch phase where civil society organisations were identified, a database created, together with moderator guidelines and topics matrix.

European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound)

Gellis designed and implemented a communications skills training for Eurofound, that aimed to foster better synergies between the various units, which would lead to a greater level of cooperation and understanding.

Government of the Republic of Slovenia

Gellis was responsible for the conception and execution of the Slovenian government’s communication and image enhancement programme targeted towards Slovenia’s EU and NATO membership.For a multi-language audience, Gellis also translated the material and provided the necessary quality control to ensure that the message remained consistent across different countries, cultures and languages.

European Commission – Directorate General Employment, Social Affairs & Equal Opportunities – PROGRESS

DG Employment required services to inform a new communications strategy for the PROGRESS programme, and contracted Gellis to undertake a Scoping Study on the communication and networking activities of PROGRESS since the launch of the programme. Gellis sought to identify the best options for the programme’s communications strategy taking account of current opportunities and needs and ensuring that all communications are relevant, coherent, effective, efficient and sustainable. 

European Commission – Directorate General Employment, Social Affairs & Equal Opportunities – EURES

 

EURES, the European Employment Service, is a cooperation network between the European Commission and the Public Employment Services of the EEA Member States and other partner organisations. Gellis developed activities that were needed to raise awareness of the possibilities and benefits of job mobility in general and of the EURES network and its services in particular, among the general public across the European Union. Gellis also faciliated a two-way information flow between the European Commission and the EURES network partners, which was vital for the success of this project.

 

European Commission – Directorate General Employment, Social Affairs & Equal Opportunities – Social Inclusion

 

In 2005, it was perceived by stakeholders that the general public throughout Europe knew very little about the streamlined EU Social Protection / Social Inclusion process, and this lack of knowledge would affect its development. In light of this, the European Commission hired Gellis to raise awareness of the role played by the European Union in the fields of Social Protection and Social Inclusion through the Open Method of Coordination.  

 

The Republic of Serbia

Gellis was appointed to design and implement the Serbian government’s communication and image enhancement campaign, targeted towards Serbia’s membership of the EU. Consulting, strategic advice, media monitoring, the organisation of press conferences and trips, were some of the activities undertaken in order to shift the attention of the media and the public to focus on the concrete achievements of the Serbian government in terms of EU integration. 

European Commission – Directorate General Information, Society and Media

Gellis has worked with DG INFSO on a number of projects, creating editorial design and concept for various publications. The client decided that their prestigious annual publication, available both print and online, needed revisiting in order to ensure that the greatest possible breadth of research areas was featured, and that the graphic appeal, readability and user-friendliness of the publication was at peak. 

European Commission – Directorate General for Environment

DG Environment required services to turn their existing Green Public Procurement website into something more comprehensive and knowledge-based. Based on existing and new content, Gellis conducted a thorough website audit, developed a new user-friendly structure, and wrote and adapted content. 

URBACT

URBACT is an EU-funded programme aimed at facilitating the exchange of good practice in the field of urban development. The programme required a redesigned communications strategy with new, innovative means of promotion. In the context of a shift between two phases of the programme, Gellis carried out an evaluation of the communications strategy for phase one, and designed a seven-year communications plan for phase two. 

European Railway Agency (ERA)

The ERA is a European body aimed at helping create an integrated and competitive European railway area by improving safety, for all European citizens. In order to interact effectively with railway sector stakeholders, national authorities and European institutions, in needs to enhance its professional, trustworthy and credible image. In this context, Gellis provided services to the ERA to increase the visual and design coherence of the Agency’s products. 

Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (EACI)

The EACI Marco Polo programme, aimed at shippers, transporters and logistic operators, is committed to finding a new, more sustainable way to transport goods across Europe. In order to be at maximum effectiveness, Gellis evaluated the programme's communication strategy, determined its trengths and weaknesses, and developed a new one that explored new opportunities for image enhancing and promotion.   

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC)

The ECDC aims to help health authorities throughout EU and EEA countries raise awareness and limit the spread of infectious diseases and, in this context, developed two communication toolkits for Seasonal Influenza and Chikungunya Fever. To assess their usefulness and effectiveness, the ECDC contracted Gellis to conduct a scoping study, aimed at seeking intelligence from key stakeholders to feed into future communication activities. 

European Commission, DG Enterprise

The European Commission launched a 2nd phase programme in 1999 as a follow-up to its 1998 Euro information/promotional campaign, with the express purpose of assisting Member States in the changeover to the Euro. Gellis was asked to assess the effectiveness and reach of the campaigns, provide an overview of the various tools used and give a recommendation as to their usefulness, and provide a general recommendation for possible overall improvements.

European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA)

The European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA) is a Brussels-based organisation whose mission is to represent full-service advertising and media agencies and agency associations in Europe. Every year, the EACA’s EFFIE Awards honour the most significant achievement in marketing communications: effectiveness. The EFFIEs recognise creative ideas and communications mediums that contribute to a brand's success. The EFFIEs are known by clients and agencies globally as the pre-eminent award in the industry and are presented in 33 countries worldwide. Gellis Communications was appointed for two years to help produce the EFFIES’s awards ceremony as well as write the Annual EFFIES awards catalogue.

Caritas Europa

Gellis was responsible for the development and delivery of a tailor-made Advocacy Training Programme for 10-15 Caritas Europa Policy Officers to help them acquire or improve their advocacy skills, thus building their capacity to successfully perform their functions and shape public policy on the core issues of Caritas Europa’s strategic plan.

European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA)

Gellis was responsible for managing the information and communication for EFPIA - including its press office - over a five-year period. This included conception and execution of communication campaigns on various issues affecting the industry.

European Food Information Council (EUFIC)

EUFIC publishes a regular 4-page newsletter, FOOD TODAY, to which Gellis had been contributing since 2003. FOOD TODAY aims at enhancing the public's understanding of nutrition and food safety; thus contributing to raising consumers' awareness of the active role they play in safe food handling and choosing a well-balanced, healthy diet.

King Baudouin Foundation

On the 10th anniversary of the death of King Baudouin, the Foundation that carries his name decided to organise an international dialogue bringing in actors representing government, civil society and industry to explore the important issue of fair trade. Gellis was asked to rapporteur this conference. An 18-page report, Fair trade, as asset for development - An international dialogue, was produced and published on the website of the Foundation.

BusinessEurope (UNICE)

Gellis, as one of two contractors, was asked to rapporteur two of their SME conferences which brought in leading business, institution, government and NGO actors.

European Platform for Rehabilitation (EPR)

The European Platform for Rehabilitation (EPR) is a network of leading service providers to people with disabilities and other socially disadvantaged groups. Twice a year, EPR meets with representatives from its members (known as Coordinators) to discuss current and future activities and developments, such as service package to members, projects, events, and internal communication. The EPR Secretariat asked Gellis to help with the facilitation of a Communication Orientation Session with Coordinators in October 2007.

European Union of National Associations of Water Suppliers and Waste Water Services (EUREAU/Water UK)

Eureau is the voice of Europe’s water and waste water industry which collectively provide vital water services to over 360 million people. More needs to be done to ensure the long-term sustainability of Europe’s water systems and to fully meet the expectations of all European citizens in respect of their water supply and waste water services. Gellis helped Eureau come up with a Manifesto which was launched at a Brussels press event jointly with DG Environment. Gellis also advised and managed media relations (EU and environmental press) for Eureau-Water UK on the EU Water Framework Directive and the reform of the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP).

European Vaccine Manufacturers (EVM)

EVM is a specialised group within the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA), the professional association of the European pharmaceutical industry. During this assignment, Gellis was responsible for maximising the visibility of the European Vaccine Manufacturers presence at several of its international annual conferences.

Interactive Software Federation of Europe (ISFE)

Gellis was contracted to perform the Conference Report and Media Outreach for the ISFE Expert Conference 2007: The Challenges of Online Gaming.

International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI)

IFPI engaged Gellis to convince policy-makers and key stakeholders of the true value of recorded music and the necessity to uphold the incentive to create music through the enforcement of intellectual property rights.

IDAY

IDAY is a network of European and African civil society organisations committed to improving education and access to education in Africa. As a new organisation with a need to promote its agenda to political and civic leaders, NGOs, media, education activists and the wider public, and for the International Day of the African Childhood event to be of wide interest, Gellis agreed to develop a communication strategy for IDAY on a pro-bono basis. 

European e-Skills Association

The EeSA is an umbrella organisation of industries and training providers working in partnership with public authorities and SMEs across Europe to promote ICT literacy and competence within European policy making. The organisation required services to raise awareness among target groups of the EeSA and members’ activities in support of an e-Skills agenda, promote EeSA initiatives in relation to key focus areas, and raise awareness of the EeSA and members’ activities in relation to EU e-Skills Week 2010. Gellis developed a multi-dimensional approach that combined a public affairs strategy with a PR approach. 

e-Microfinance Platform

The e-MFP is a growing network of over 120 organisations and individuals active in the area of microfinance. The ‘European Microfinance Week’ organised by e-MFP gathers together stakeholders to discuss key issues and priorities, and provides a platform from which to promote the network to a wider audiencec. E-MFP contracted Gellis to develop a communication strategy to support participation in ‘EU Microfinance Week’ event, improve e-MFP visibility, and foster and strengthen the perception of e-MFP as the European focal point for microfinance activities.

eSkills ILB

The European e-Skills Association is an umbrella organisation of ICT embedded industries and training providers working in partnership with public authorities, SMEs, and relevant stakeholders across Europe to promote ICT literacy and competence (e-skills). It contracted Gellis to develop a strategy centred on providing an opportunity for EeSA to demonstrate its thought leadership in key policy areas. Gellis developed a multi-dimensional approach that combined a public affairs strategy with a PR approach.

FedEx

Gellis Communications was called in to draft the speech and to provide training and coaching in speech delivery for an event called the “Club FedEx”, a vehicle for its marketing heads to recognise the achievements of staff as well as encourage them to further improve their returns.

International Communications Round Table (ICRT)

The ICRT is a broad grouping of 35 leading publishing, media, computer and communications companies. Gellis was tasked with producing and organising, in the European Parliament, a day-long conference on “Demystifying electronic commerce – a guided tour”

Microsoft - Europe, Middle East & Africa

Gellis was responsible for managing the Microsoft EMEA press office in Brussels over a five-year period. This included conception and execution of numerous communication campaigns on issues such as the patentability of computer software, IT skills and cyber crime.

Nomura International plc

Nomura International is the private equity group of Nomura Japan, one of the world’s largest securities houses with 34 offices in 25 countries. Nomura is a bank incorporated in the UK. Gellis Communications was asked to provide strategic advice and help with monitoring and media management of the Belgian media.

Xerox Europe

Xerox Corporation decided to expand a manufacturing plant in Ireland whilst at the same time begin downsizing two manufacturing plants in the Netherlands and the UK. Gellis provided issues management advice.

ZAK

Gellis was asked by its Polish Worldcom partner consultancy Glaubicz Garwolinska Consultants to support the securing of substantial funding for the installation of a zero-emission fossil fuel power demonstration plant as proposed by the consortium of ZAK (Zakłady Azotowe Kędzierzyn) and PKE (Południowy Koncern Energetyczny).

Roland Berger Strategy Consultants

In preparation for the Financial Times ‘Best of European Business Awards’, Gellis was contracted to provide services in background research and stakeholder analysis, including the identification of award selection criteria, the development of a survey aimed at 150 CEOs, and the organisation and management of a high-level dinner and awards ceremony. 

Slovenian Business Research Association (SBRA)

The SBRA is an international non-profit organisation seeking to act as a bridge between business and research communities in Slovenia and EU institutions. They aim to keep members informed of European economic developments and trends in the research sphere, as well as support the interests of association members and also participate in promotional and educational activities to help prepare Slovenian business and research communities for EU membership. Gellis assists by providing strategic media advice, the organisation of conferences, and the writing, editing and production of a quarterly newsletter. 

Doughty Hanson

One of the largest independent private equity firms in Europe, Doughty Hanson required media management services when it acquired a majority of shares of a Belgium-based carpet manufacturer in 2004. Gellis has provided a full-service press office, including strategic advice, crisis management, press releases, and translation. 

Friends of Europe

A leading Brussels-based think-tank for EU policy analysis, Friends of Europe’s goal is to stimulate new thinking on the future of Europe and widen the debate through increased participation of the media. Gellis has been contracted on a project-by-project basis to provide editorial and audiovisual services for Friends of Europe events.

 

Boeringer-Ingelheim

Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) contracted Gellis to conduct an in-depth mapping of key EU-level policies and stakeholders with potential of impact on BI’s short and long term business objectives. The study served to inform the development of a pan-European patient advocacy strategy and provided the client with strategic advice on Brussels positioning from a governmental, industry and patient perspective. 

British American Tobacco

 

Gellis delivered a two-day training in West Africa, for British American Tobacco’s senior management involved in either operations or regulatory affairs.  The training was designed to deal with issues such as child labour, marketing standards, corporate social responsibility, youth smoking prevention, advertising, etc. The subjects covered in the training were media relations response mechanisms, crisis communications, and issues management. Gellis also organised a one-day training in London for mid-level managers involved in sponsorship, marketing and advertising linked to Formula 1. The training was held in English for five groups and in Spanish for one group, and was designed to deal primarily with tobacco sponsorship related issues.
